Big Lottery Fund – Women and girls project (Eastern Region) WAG Flyer
Empowering Gypsy Traveller and Roma women and girls who may be currently living in or passing through one of the six eastern regions to gain confidence in order to enable positive change
This is a five-year project working across East Anglia with women and girls from the Gypsy, Traveller and Roma community who may be living in or passing through East Anglia who may have been affected by or survivors of domestic abuse to better understand and gain support for the issues of Domestic Violence. We are running a number of workshops and will have short-term emergency caravans to use.
One of the key aspects of this project is the purchase and use of our two ‘safe trailers’ (four-berth) which will be used by women and girls and depending upon size of family it may be possible on occasion to accommodate more than one family in a caravan i.e., maybe a small family/individual, depending upon the person and families/individual needs). The caravans will be used to give the person/family time to come to terms with what they are going through. We will work with them to look at all options available and what the likely outcome of that option will be. These caravans are not a long-term solution they will be an interim resource. They will be used by those wishing to exit the community and those in the process of returning to the community which may not include returning to the family home and helping them to begin the process of re-engagement into the extended family/community structure.
This will not be used as long-term accommodation but as part of a planned re-engagement process. Overall the caravans are predominately for the replacement of women and girls to make informed decisions about their future and how to positively move forward. The process of accessing the trailer will be on first come first served bases, however, if two families/individual request access at the same time they will be asked to share if practical to do so (i.e. room etc.). If this is not possible then those who have a history of nomadic living and thus have not previously lived in a house will be prioritized.
We also run group and one to one work across East Anglia to help women and girls from the community to develop their understanding and build their confidence.
Esmee Fairburn 3rd Part Domestic Abuse Reporting (National) Esmee Fairbairn Flyer

Reporting can be undertaken in a number of ways
- Online using our 3rd Party Reporting form
- With support from a service provider/partner or other professional such as , police, IDVA,
- Via the help of other GRT groups (especially if outside of Eastern Region)
- Over the telephone
- Via email
- At the One Voice office (where 1-2-1 assistance to make a report will be made available if required) The 3rd party reporting form is available on the website, or can be emailed out or an hard copy can be sent via post to those who are unable to access the internet and who may wish to complete a reporting form themselves. The project will extend the pilot project undertaken with Norfolk Police where for the first time data relating GTR women and girls experiences of abuse was collected and collated. The information obtained from these 3rd party reports will be collated by One Voice and entered into a database to allow key data to be identified and shared with other professionals and interested parties offering support to DA victims. Information gained from these reports will also be of great benefit in helping One Voice to recognise areas of need and possible support requirements of GTR DA victims, and assist in helping to identify the level of abuse existent within the GTR community, and types of abuse taking place.
Allen Lane GATE Project (Gypsy and Traveller Empowerment) Allen Lane Flyer (1)
Empowering women and girls from the Gypsy, Traveller and Roma community to understand and social media can be used to coerce and control others
The project is based in Norfolk and aims to give a voice to women and girls from the Gypsy and Traveller and Roma community living in or passing through Norfolk to enable them to talk, express and explore relationships in a safe and culturally competent environment on their experiences of domestic abuse, an area which is a very complex and sensitive within this community .
This project will help women and girls who are fearful and unable to speak freely about relationships and determine what is/is not acceptable in today’s society to understand how they can make positive changes and improve their situation. It will give them the opportunity to identify what constitutes abuse especially younger girls who may be suffering from coercion and control with actively knowing they are victims of abuse and help them to look at how they personally can identify personal boundaries, develop safeguarding management strategies within their own relationships and empower them to define their life and thus establish positive changes to help eliminate abuse and safeguarding concerns.
